In this busy, high tech, work a day world, the calm of simple pleasures is a welcome relief. 'Back to Basics' is here to help you reclaim the cozy peace and quiet of the country home.

Imagine your child snuggling under a soft, puffy, handmade quilt.  And imagine bathing with handmade soap ... simple, gentle, skin loving, without the harsh chemicals of commercial products. That's what 'Back to Basics' is all about. Everything on this site has been handmade to help bring simple pleasures back into your home.

Let us introduce ourselves!

This site is shared by a mother and daughter team, Pat and Sarah Sumpter. Sarah's interest in sewing has launched the idea of 'Back to Basics'. She is now offering modestly priced baby quilts and totes. She is a creative person with other ideas in mind, so you might like to check back from time to time!

Arts, crafts, and other home skills have been Pat's lifetime passion. She is currently offering handmade soap, and  stationary. She is also offering original crochets, as well as those of vintage designs, including authentic Victorian!

Your child or grandchild will surely love to snuggle beneath Sarah's puffy, comfy quilts, and Mom will enjoy the matching tote for baby items while on the go!

And Sarah is now offering unique, reversable tote bags ... "Turn Totes"!

Pat's 'Oregon Trail Soap' is handmade, hand milled, and hand packaged. Only the simplest ingredients necessary in soap making have been used - water, lye, and oil. During the soap making process a chemical reaction occurs neutralizing the caustic nature of lye, and producing skin softening glycerine. The glycerine is often removed by commercial manufacturers and sold separately. Not so with 'Oregon Trail Soap'! It's all natural!
